How to Build Your Own:
Here is a basic “How To” guide for Creating a Home Aquaponics Garden
Materials:
• Fish tank, between three to twenty gallons (You can use glass or plexiglass. If using plastic, make sure to get food-grade plastic without the harmful chemicals that can leech into the water.)
• Grow bed, between three to eight inches deep
• Growing medium (Think coconut coir, peat moss or clay pebbles.)
• Plastic container (must fit in the tank so that it the sides of the container hold the rest of the contained over the water, in the tank)
• Water pump
• Plastic tubing to connect to the water pump (length will vary)
• Water filter
• Scissors, tape, drill
Procedure:
1. Use the drill, or scissors, to pierce holes in the sides and at the bottom of the large plastic container.
2. Put the water pump in the tank and attach the tubing.
3. Put the large plastic container on the top of the tank and put the other end of the tube into the container.
4. Cover the plastic tubing with the growing medium and fill the rest of the grow bed.
5. Filter water (amount depends on the tank size) and fill the tank half way or less with the filtered water.
6. Let it run for a little while to make sure everything is working correctly.
7. Add in whatever type of fish you want.
There are other amazing home aquaponics kits out there but they cost thousands, where as our will be double to low triple digits in costs.
